Oral Rehydration Solution
Having run well and finished strong, what is needed? An Oral Rehydration Solution. Here you are:
1 liter water
8 tsp sugar - sugar to help the other ingredients be absorbed
1/2 tsp salt - for sodium and chloride
1/4 tsp baking soda (or baking powder) - for bicarbonate
lemon juice - for some potassium and flavor (otherwise it tastes TERRIBLE)
Here's the official new lower electrolyte recipe recommended by the World Health Organization, which would require also purchasing fake salt (potassium chloride) instead of using fruit juice or banana, and glucose instead of sucrose (table sugar) but that may not be a big deal for you:
Ingredient Amt. per liter*
Glucose 20.0 g
Sodium Chloride (NaCl) 3.5 g
Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) 2.5 g
Potassium Chloride (KCl) 1.5 g
* Per liter of clean water
There are about 5 grams (g) per teaspoon, thus 4 teaspoons glucose, etc.
