What Is Your Ideal Weight?

Are you one of the many who wonder about (or even struggle with) what is you idea weight in order to be a the best runner you can be? Here is an article in Runner's World UK written by Amby Burfoot, winner of the 1968 Boston Marathon and long time editor for Runner's World, which may help you with your questions. The article refers to some fitness experts who suggest they would like to banish the whole idea of ideal weight and focus rather upon fitness. STILL...most competitive runners are more concerned about "fastness" than "fitness" when they race. Generally, less weight produces faster times, other thing being equal. It is interesting to note that Dr. Paul Vanderburg, sports physiologist from University of Dayton who has been interested in the weight/fitness issue for years, indicates that weights less than 110 pounds for women and 143 pounds for men are generally not an advantage for decreasing time in a run. Some interesting thoughts.
